The Knights of St. John International traces its origins to the Knights Hospitaller, founded in Jerusalem in 1048 to care for poor, sick, and injured pilgrims to the Holy Land.

Membership Classifications
Note: Each Commandery should have a uniformed rank and it shall be the duty of the officers of the Commandery to encourage and maintain such rank.
The following Classes of membership shall be recognized:
1
UNIFORMED MEMBERS

These are members equipped and qualified to serve in the uniformed rank.

ACTIVE MEMBERS

These are members who pay all dues and assessments in full and are entitled to all benefits and rights of the Commandery to which they belong.

SOCIAL MEMBERS

These are members who pay a smaller amount of dues and are not entitled to benefits but otherwise have the same rights as active members.

Eligibility:
  • Men over fifty-five (55) years of age, or
  • Those who are physically unfit to pass an examination

Note: Social Members can become members of the uniformed rank.

HONORARY MEMBERS

Including Clergy, Government and/or Local Officials

Requirements & Privileges:

No dues required

No assessments

No per capita taxes

Not entitled to benefits

No right to vote in any meeting

Important: Regular members cannot become Honorary Members under this classification.

STUDENT MEMBERS

These are members who are in full time attendance at school or college.

Entitled To:
  • All privileges of an active member
  • Insurance in the Death Benefit Fund
Not Entitled To:
  • Hold any office
  • Vote on questions pertaining to distribution of funds
  • Any other benefits

Dues & Obligations:

Student members shall pay no dues except per capita taxes.

Upon Graduation: Upon termination of attendance at school or college, student members automatically become active members subject to all the obligations and entitled to all benefits and privileges thereof.

Be a confirmed Roman Catholic.

Prohibited Groups

Do not belong to any secret society or organization forbidden by the Catholic Church

Good Character

Reputation for integrity, morality, and ethical conduct

Financial Requirement

Be financially up to date.

How to Join

Your journey to knighthood begins with these simple steps.

Get A Sponsor

Secure sponsorship from two members in good standing who have known you for at least two years.

Recommendation

Obtain a letter of recommendation from your parish priest.

Submit Inquiry

Fill out the prescribed application form, also called a Petition for Admission and express your interest to join.

Aspiration

begin your aspitration by attending our meetings and receive training that will prepare your for membership

Application Review

Await the review process and have the application signed and approved by your local Commandery.

Investiture

Once application is approved, You will be initiated into the 1st Degree of the order and begin your service as a Knight or Auxilliary.
